UoN Case Study: Wellbeing Map

By UniversityofNottingham 31 Jan 2022

University campuses can sometimes be viewed by students, especially international students, merely as a place for studying.

However at the University of Nottingham, as at many other universities, the campuses are beautiful sites that offer an ideal opportunity for students to switch off from studying and take care of their mental and physical health.

We wanted to develop a Wellbeing resource that would help students use their campuses in a different way.

Our Wellbeing Map

The Senior Health and Well Being Coordinator and the International Student Health and Wellbeing Officer, in conjunction with a School of Geography technician, created a Wellbeing Map for the University Park Campus. We surveyed possible designs and content ideas and the Geography Technician developed suggested map designs.

We chose a simple design that contained information on staying active, taking time out, finding support and taking a break (which is linked to healthy eating and hydration). The map is simple and easy to read with colour coding for the different sections. On the reverse of the map, we provided information about welfare support services.

This map is the first of three and has been a great resource for international students. We hope to make similar Wellbeing maps for other campuses to ensure students know how to make the most of their university grounds.
